Notes on the Web - Histology Resources
Resources to Supplement Textbook Study of Histology
Bruce G. Stewart
General Objectives and Study Guide
Your objectives for these Notes on the Web and associated readings and exercises are those given at the beginning of Chapter 4 in Marieb and Hoehn (2008)
Resource Links for Lab Images
JayDoc HistoWeb is authored by Milton Wolf and Marc Scarbrough of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology of the University of Kansas Medical Center (Copyright 2008). It contains an excellent collection of human tissue images representing all of the major types of tissues we are covering in Chapter 4 in Marieb and Hoehn (2008). You should use the JayDoc HistoWeb site as a resource for study of the tissue types assigned in our class. For practical exam purposes, remember that you will only be responsible for recognizing and naming the tissues and their structures for the actual histology microscope slides from our laboratory work. Similarly, you will be tested only over the specific types of preparations (cross-sections, long sections, isolated, teased, ground, etc.) found our laboratory microscope slide collection on campus.
Reminder about Textbook Study
As with other topics, your textbook has excellent presentations of the materials on the integumentary system. While you should focus on the specific material in the Notes on the Web, you should always use your textbook as a resource for illustrations and for understanding content that your notes cover. Also, your Notes on the Web sometimes refer you to specific materials to learn from your book (i.e. the clinical terms noted previously).
As with all materials throughout the semester, you will have opportunities to ask questions or ask that any relevant material from your assignments be discussed in class. Please do not hesitate to seek help.
