Meet at 12:45pm sharp & return about 3:30pm
USFWS Biologist will speak on career paths, especially relating to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He will give his experienced opinion on the importance of academic preparation and volunteer-work to enhance your career opportunities. This will include a brief history of the US National Wildlife Refuge System and the role of the Tishomingo NWR in that system.

United States Department of Agriculture - Animal Plant Health Inspection Service

SPRING 2009 12 February 2009

Location: Murray State College (CC 101)

Mr. Mark Thompson has worked for the USDA for over a decade in the field of wildlife management. He will discuss a variety of topics related to his wildlife work, and he will share his experience regarding job opportunities in this field. He will demonstrate capture techniques and sampling equipment for various species of mammals.

Mr. Ron Parker has an incredibly wide range of professional experience in park management, nature interpretation for the public, and other aspects of federal park service operations.  He is a great guy and enthusiastic speaker.  He can give you insight on the education and training necessary to build a career in the National Park Service.

Meet at 12:45pm sharp at MSC Garages (west side of campus); Return about 3:00pm

Fisheries Biologist and Hatchery Manager, Kerry Graves and/or Assistant Project Leader, Brent Bristow, will speak on the function of the Tishomingo National Fish Hatchery.  Special emphasis will be placed on their work with the Paddlefish, but they will also discuss other species of focus at the hatchery.  One of the most recent projects involves a reptile, the Alligator Snapping Turtle!  Mr. Graves and Mr. Bristow will be able to address career opportunities in the fishery field and how one goes about preparing academically and experience-wise to find jobs in the field.

Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, Mexico

This is not required but may be within the budget of some students to attend. I will be attending. In many years, the annual meeting is much closer. I would highly recommend that you put it on your lists of professional experiences you plan to have.
