A Brief Picture Account of Mexico Trip

Mexican Ecology & Culture - 2006

At the border we had to stop and get our visa’s to enter Mexico and get out money exchanged into pesos.

We stopped at a mescal in the edge of the Chihuahuan Defactory for a tour.

We made camp in Bustamante canyon, then went for a look around.

We drove for another day. We stopped on the side of the road to look at some of the vegetation.

We finally made it to the beach.

There were many different kinds of birds along the beach.

Fun's over and now for the work.

Day 1. birding at 7am, then back for breakfast at 11am. Then we left to go put out traps for mammals that evening just before dark. Afterwards we drove to a small stream to set up mist nets to catch bats.

Day 2. Up at 7am to check our traps and to my surprise I caught nothing. But another person in our group, Teresa from Emporia State University, caught an opossum and there was also a harvest mouse caught.

Day 3. Up at 8am for reptiles. We then went to the crocodile farm up the road.
We went back to camp for a little while then left again to go catch frogs.

Day4. Up at 9am to catch fish, it was very exciting. there were birds swooping down and picking up fish in our net.

Day 5. The next morning we went on a river boat ride, we saw crocodiles, iguanas, and many different kinds of birds.

Heading North. The next morning we left to come home. We drove for what seemed like an eternity but before we knew it we were at the border then across it. We stopped and said our goodbyes to the Mississippi students then headed for Oklahoma. We stopped in Marietta to say our goodbyes to the Emporia students then it was off to Ardmore. We stopped at the Prairie Kitchen say our goodbyes to the students from the higher Ed center then we raced toward Tishomingo.

Even though it might seem like a lot of work it’s really a lot of fun. When you have a little free time you can usually find ways to make the best of it. This was a great trip and I wanted to thank Bruce, Dwight, and Chris for the great job they did. Thanks!
