Saucer Magnolia Bloom in Snow This bloom was on a tree on our campus. The "species" is actually a hybrid whose genetic instructions once again failed to say "wait until after the last frost." Most years the blooms get frost burned, but this year the snow did the job on 6 March 2008. The fleeting moment where both were fresh was beautiful. |

Western Collared Lizard (Crotophytus colaris baileyi) I grew up knowing the collared lizard as a "mountain boomer." In fact, it does not "boom," however, it can do some pretty nice displays. This photograph was taken with a 55mm macro lens in Big Bend National Park, Texas. The background includes cliffs on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande. |
